CASE SCENARIO

There are two pathways in which cells can undergo apoptosis. One of those pathways is the extrinsic pathway. The extrinsic pathway involves a killer lymphocyte with a Fas ligand binding to a Fas death receptor on a target receptor. Through their binding, they induce a death initiating signaling complex called a DISC, thus activating caspase-8. in the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis, an organelle of the cell controls the the process. The activation of this pathway is through a activated BH3-only protein. The pro-apoptotic BH3-only protein inactivate anti-apoptotic Bcl2 protein allowing for the BH 1,2,3 to aggregate and form channels within the organelle. Thus initiating the intrinsic apoptotic pathway.
